The role of Clear Lake Regional Medical Center’s Board of Trustees is to assist in developing the hospital’s strategic direction and focus, and evaluating the hospital’s delivery of health care, and development of new service lines and programs that ensure our patients are provided the most advanced technology and cost-effective health care close to home.

Richard Gornto, CFP, is President and Founding Principal of First Financial Benefits, Inc. of Houston, Texas and past Principal and CEO of First Financial Capital Corporation, an employee benefit third-party administration firm. He is a certified financial planner with 33 years of experience in the financial services and insurance business.
Rick is past President and Board Chair of the Houston Society of Certified Financial Planners; past Trustee of Alvin Community College; past Board member of Child Advocates of Houston; Past Board member and stockholder of Alvin National Bank; past President and current Board Member of the Nolan Ryan Foundation. Rick has been married to Janice Bartley Gornto for 36 years, and has two children and four grandchildren. He resides in the Clear Lake area.
Dr. Harvinder S. Bedi is a Board Certified Neonatal-Perinatal Pediatrician and Medical Director of the Neonatal ICU at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. Dr. Bedi received his bachelors and masters degrees from Christian Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, Punjab, India in 1983. He then interned and completed his residency in Pediatrics at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Bedi was a Post-doctoral Fellow, Neonatal-Perinatal Section, at Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Bedi has served as the Medical Director of the Nurseries at Bayshore Medical Center, Memorial Southeast Hospital and St. John's Hospital. He is a member of the American Medical Association; a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics; a member of the Texas Medical Association and the Harris County Medical Society; a member of the Houston Pediatric Society and the Bay Area Pediatric Society, as well as a member of the American Association of Physicians from India.
Sandy Johnson was born in Louisiana and earned her B.S. degree in Mathematics from Louisiana Tech University. She received an MBA degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Since 1980, she has held many technical and management positions with Barrios Technology, giving her a broad and deep knowledge of the growth and operations of a small company. In July, 1993, became the President of Barrios, which provides aerospace engineering and related technical services to NASA, DoD and the aerospace industry. Under her leadership, Barrios has grown from 150 employees to over 500, with annual revenue growth from $10 million to more than $60 million. Barrios is headquartered in Houston, and has an office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Sandy also is active in several community organizations. She is past Chairman of the Board of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, and is a past Chairman of the Development and Advisory Council for the University of Houston Clear Lake (UHCL) and the Clear Creek Education Foundation.
She is a strong supporter of the United Way, serving on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee for the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast as well as having chaired Bay Area fundraising campaigns. She is also an active board member of the Communities in Schools - Bay Area Organization. She has received the Greater Houston Area Rotary District's Vocational Excellence Award and was named one of ten Houston Women on the Move. In 2004 she received one of NASA's highest honors, the distinguished Public Service Medal.
Roberta Lee, M.D. is a Board Certified Pediatrician with the Clear Lake Pediatric Clinic in Webster, Texas. Lee earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and Chemistry in May of 1972 from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She then completed graduate studies at Trinity University and graduated in May of 1973.
Her Medical Degree was earned from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston in June of 1976. She then completed a residency in pediatrics at The University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. Dr. Lee has been an active staff member at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center since 1979 and served as Chief of Pediatrics in 1983.
Bob Mitchell is President of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership. He joined the organization in 2000 to oversee the statewide implementation of the Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP). In 2007, he was assigned responsibility of BAHEP's day-to-day operations. Mitchell has 30 years of experience in economic development, process controls and manufacturing management in the Houston region. He has spent more than two decades in management as a highly successful executive in both for profit and not for profit enterprises and has consistently demonstrated his ability to develop, manage and implement a strategic plan for international companies.
Prior to joining BAHEP, he managed ASEP International and Unitech International, both Houston companies. Key elements of Mitchell's work experience were gained through a 14-year period a Grumman Aerospace Corporation from 1980 to 1994. Mitchell is married with three children and lives in Houston. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and coaching college baseball.
Thomas Rowe, M.D., is a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He currently practices in Webster, Texas. Dr. Rowe received his Bachelors in Nursing from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He then completed his Medical Degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Rowe completed his internship/residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1993. His Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship was completed at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. Dr. Rowe previously was Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at CLRMC in Webster, Texas.
He was Vice-Chief, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, 1997-1999; Medical Director of Labor and Delivery, The University of Texas at Galveston, 1997-1999; Director of Prenatal Diagnostic Center, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, 1996-1999; Medical Director of the Birth Center, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, 1996-1999 and the Medical Executive Committee, Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, 2006-present.
Willaim Uzelmeier, M.D. is a Board Certified Radiologist practicing with the Southwest Radiology Association since 1998. Dr. Uzelmeier is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor of science degree in biology. He then attended The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston and completed his medical degree in 1992.
Uzelmeier then interned at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Diagnostic Radiology in 1997. Dr. Uzelmeier is a Member of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology; the Radiologic Society of North America and the American Roentgen Ray Society.
